Settling In

I’ve been completely MIA for the last week, and for that, I’m sorry. But, I’m finally moved into my new apartment!

To celebrate my new home, I’m about to order some fun things from Etsy. And so will Nicole from Cookies on the Run, because she won my Etsy gift card giveaway!!!

Maybe she’ll buy another amazing hat, or a fireman costume for Brian 😋

Thanks to everyone who linked up, pinned, and tweeted entries!

While I hate most parts of moving, this one makes me so happy, because its a completely fresh start.

They say moving is one of the top stressful things you can go through in any given year. I cannot disagree. I am a complete control freak, and putting my life in someone else’s hands makes me anxious. Not having my life in order, even though I’m not known for keeping a completely orderly house, makes me start to feel physically overwhelmed. The fact that I have boxes I haven’t even opened yet makes me want to not leave my apartment for an instant until I finish everything and get it just right.

I’m also a keeper. I keep things that have memories attached to them. No, I’m not a hoarder, but I keep things like cards, and notes, and little things that make me happy. I do this for this exact reason: when its time to move on to the next thing in my life, and I pack and unpack, I get to relive those memories all over again. This time around, I’ve dreaded unpacking that box of memories. I was dreading it, and when I opened it, it made me really sad for a night. But the benefit of starting a new ending, is that I got to literally toss them out, and get back to organizing my future.

So after almost a week, and hours of building Ikea furniture, I’m getting settled in. My new ending is starting to come together, and I feel like I’m home.

What’s the first thing you do when you move into a new place?
What’s a funny quirk you have?
How long did it take you to fully unpack when you last moved?

    1. I moved from both Alabama and Connecticut to Philadelphia because I had been in temp housing for work for 6 months in Birmingham. Moving from multiple locations was tough. Not suggested!

    1. Yeah, I feel like that happens fairly often. I don’t have a ton of storage space so I’m going to have to make some decisions around keeping things or they have to be moved into smaller storage containers.

  1. I’m cracking up that you used that picture! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful giveaway, I’ll spend it wisely! I am JUST like you when it comes to moving in. Get it done! I’m so happy for you that you are building your home sweet home, here’s to moving on and forward!

  2. Get beds set up and part of the kitchen. That would be the first thing I would do. The last time I moved was nearly 7 years ago when my daughter was 10 days old, so I actually don’t remember much of it.
I remember seeing on Oprah once that instead of storing cards in a box and then you forgetting about them, frame them and hang them up on the wall. So I have done that with some of my fav cards.
